SUMMER 2007
I’ve spent hours on the phone with friends
that won’t see that there is a tomorrow…
I’ve
pulled homeless prostitutes out of dilapidated Crack
motels. …
I’ve stayed up all night talking nameless strangers
out of slashing their wrists….
I’ve watched you lose peers to car accidents,
suicide and drug overdoses….
And I absolutely shudder with fear when I see how
invincible you think you are.
I will make you a promise today. No longer will I
tell you how wrong your choices are as I stumble to
the kitchen for another drink.
No
longer will I ask you to do anything I’m
not doing myself.
This, you will see, is my journey out of hypocrisy.
In order to save you, I must save myself.

a Life
